Martin Luther said, "Music is an outstanding gift of God and next to theology." The Lutheran Church has a history of liturgical worship. A structure to worship is one of the defining attributes of Lutheran worship forms. Music forms an integral part of the liturgical form of worship and is used in conjunction with the worship service as well as with hymns. Martin Luther was a composer as well as a reformer and wrote a number of well known hymns such as A Mighty Fortress is Our God. The Lutheran church has quite rightly been called the "singing church".
