MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry and Ranging (MESSENGER) is a NASA Discovery mission launched in August 2004. The primary objectives of MESSENGER are to study Mercury from orbit for a period of one Earth year. MESSENGER is equipped with an imaging system, x-ray, ultraviolet, energetic particle and plasma, gamma-ray and neutron spectrometers, laser altimeter, magnetometer and radio science experiments.
