The Devils - UK film (1971) directed by Ken Russell. Adapted from the novel by Aldous Huxley 'The Devils of Loudon' and loosely based on historical fact, the film centers around a rebel priest, Father Grandier [Oliver Reed], caught between his faith and his humanity. Vanessa Redgrave co-stars as the head nun. A true 'horror' film - disturbing and unforgettable. The music score is by Peter Maxwell Davies, Britain's leading avant-garde composer, and the theatrical sets are by Derek Jarman. Oliver Reed described his performance as the best he ever gave.
