The MSFA was formed in April of 1993 and began its first season of competition in 1994. The 11 original MSFA institutions included Geneva College of Beaver Falls, Pa.; Malone College of Canton, Ohio; Tiffin; Urbana, Ohio University and Westminster in the Mideast League. The other six schools _ Findlay; Lindenwood College of St. Charles, Mo.; Olivet Nazarene University of Bourbannais, Ill.; Saint Xavier University of Chicago; Taylor University of Upland, Ind.; and Trinity International University of Deerfield, Ill. made up the Midwest League. Then in April 1994, St. Ambrose University of Davenport, Iowa; Tri-State University of Angola, Ind.; and Walsh University of Canton, Ohio were approved for membership. They began play in 1996 with St. Ambrose aligned in the Midwest League and Tri-State and Walsh joining the Mideast League. Prior to the 1996 campaign, Iowa Wesleyan College of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, was accepted as an MSFA member and began play in the Midwest League after Lindenwood ended its affiliation following the 1995 season.
