On April 24, 1995, the presidents of member schools gathered in Nashville, Tenn., to form a conference for all sports, effectively merging the athletic pursuits of similar institutions in three states. The new Mid-South Conference was unique in its broad-based athletic competition for men and women, offering 15 championships. The conference requires schools to field teams in the sports of baseball, basketball and football for men, and basketball, softball, tennis and volleyball for women. Championships are offered in sports with at least five member teams competing. Championships are offered in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, football, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis, cheerleading and volleyball.
