James Timothy McCarver (1941-) was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He made his major league debut in 1959 with the St. Louis Cardinals. While he also played for other teams, most remember him with either the Cards or with the Philadelphia Phillies. Later in his career, he was also known as Steve Carlton's personal catcher. After retiring, McCarver embarked on a broadcasting career, also writing several books.
