Chuang Tzu has been variously called a naturalist, pantheist, anarchist, and rebel. More simply put, he is a Taoist. Although Chuang Tzu likely never heard the term "Taoist" in the usage we know it today, his writings have been characterized as such almost since their inception. Regarded by many philosophers as a mystic, Chuang Tzu is the best known of the Taoist writers whose existence can be verified. His works are the subject of numerous translations.
