The process by which the Catholic Church, after due consideration, may declare that the Sacrament of Matrimony did not indeed take place in spite of appearances. This kind of sentence is given by a Marriage Tribunal acting as a form of court that hears cases for annulment. It is the only body in the Catholic Church competent to establish the nullity of Marriage.
