A diocese is a geographic unit of administration in the Episcopal Church. A diocese is headed by a bishop, and is divided into parishes, or local churches. The diocesan seat of the bishop is the local cathedral. Dioceses administer programs and provide resources for the parishes and clergy within their administrative area.
