The Medieval period (or Middle Ages) was an era of European history that extended for approximately 1000 years, from the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century CE to the fall of the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire in the 15th century CE. The current concept of homosexuality was not in use prior to the late 19th century. The individuals listed here would not, therefore, have viewed their sexuality in the same terms that we use today. They are listed based upon historical data viewed from current definitions of sexuality.
