This category is devoted to the trials of Orenthal James Simpson. Prior to the sensational trials, which made celebrities of the judge, prosecuting and defense attorneys, and even jury members, "OJ" was widely known as one of the greatest running backs in the history of American football, and as a sports commentator with a minor movie and television career. Simpson was arrested, after a bizarre low-speed chase across the freeways of Southern California, on June 17, 1994 as the prime suspect in the double murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her companion Ron Goldman. He was found not guilty by a Los Angeles jury on October 3, 1995. A civil "wrongful death" suit filed by the Goldman family followed, and a jury found Simpson liable for their deaths on February 4, 1997. Simpson was also a figure in court proceedings regarding custody of his children, who were placed in the care of the Brown family.
