Animalia:Chordata:Mammalia:Carnivora:Canidae:Lycaon pictus Lycaon pictus, common names African wild dog, painted dog, painted hunting dog, and Cape hunting dog, is the only living species in the genus Lycaon. Historically distributed across most of Africa, but now an endangered species with only a few thousand individuals in total, found primarily in areas of southern Africa (northern Botswana, north-east Namibia, western and northern Zimbabwe, southern Tanzania and the Kruger National Park in South Africa, as well as Kafue National Park and Luanga Valley, Zambia).
