Big Horn County was organized in 1896. The county seat is Basin. As of 2005, the United States Census Bureau estimates that the population of Big Horn County is 11,333, down from 11,461 in 2000. The county is bordered by Park County to the west, Washakie County to the south, Johnson and Sheridan Counties to the east, and Big Horn and Carbon County to the north.
