Village in the town of Hopkinton. Ashaway has an interesting industrial history. One of the early trades in Ashaway was blacksmithing. The Ashaway Line & Twine Mfg. Co., a manufacturer of top quality sport fishing lines and products, placed the first commercial product made of nylon on the market on January 20, 1939, -- the Ashaway Nylon Bait Casting Line.
