Brighton is a town located on the southeastern rim of Rochester. In New York state, towns are not municipalities but are government units similar to, but smaller than, counties; the town government provides services to unincorporated places within the town's boundaries. Many locations in Brighton have Rochester postal addresses but are outside Rochester's municipal boundaries and consider themselves part of Brighton. Brighton also contains municipalities such as Fairport.
