Belknap County is located in the central part of the state. The county seat is Laconia.
The population in 2000 was 56,325. The largest towns are Laconia, Gilford, and Belmont.
Belknap is bordered by Carroll County to the north, Strafford County to the east, Merrimack County to the south, and Grafton County to the west.
