Audubon County was named for John James Audubon, a naturalist and artist. It is in the southwestern part of the state and is bounded by Carroll, Guthrie, Cass and Shelby counties. The present land area is 444 square miles, and the population in 2000 was 6830. The county seat is Audubon.
