South Chicago is one of the 77 community areas in Chicago, Illinois. It was formerly known as Ainsworth. The Calumet River is located on the community's southeast side. South Chicago is considered the gateway to the Calumet Region and is one of four neighborhoods (the others being East Side, Hegewisch and South Deering) that are considered by locals as Chicago's Southeast Side.
