Dover is a small community east of Tampa and northwest of Plant City in Hillsborough County.

Settled in the 1850s, the community was first named Sydney in 1882, Cork in 1884, and then Dover in 1890 by settlers who came from Dover, Delaware. Life revolved around the churches and strawberries. Children went to school six months out of the year -- when strawberries weren't in season -- and helped in the family fields the other six months.
