Putnam [Windham County] Connecticut was incorporated from Pomfret, Thompson and Killingly in 1855. Its name derives from Israel Putnam and its Indian name is Quinebaug.
Area, 20.4 sq. miles. Population, est., 8,879. Voting districts, 2. Principal industries, corrugated cardboard, plastic injection molding, winches, buttons, antiques, manufacturing of candles, machine tooling, production of polystyrene, processing of sail cloth, textile engraving and chrome plating.
