Pomfret [Windham County] Connecticut was settled in 1686. It was incorporated in 1713 and named from Pontefract in Yorkshire. Its Indian name is Mashamoquet.
Area, 40.6 sq. miles. Population, est., 3,442. Voting Districts, 1. Principal industries, agriculture dairy, forest products, manufacture of cable and cable products, fiberoptics, processing of frozen food dinners.
Pomfret includes the areas known as Pomfret Center and Abington.
