Norwich [New London County] was settled in 1659 and accepted as a legal township in 1662. Named from Norwich in Norfolk, England. Its Native American name is "Mohegan".

Area, 29.5 sq. miles. Population, est., 34,931. Voting districts, 10. Principal industries, manufacture of textiles, cartons, plastics, electronics, furniture, plumbing equipment, power tools, wire goods, photo engraving, computer services, marinas.

Norwich includes the sections of Taftville and Yantic.
