New Hartford, Connecticut
New Hartford was named in 1733 from Hartford and incorporated in 1738. It has a total area of 38.1 sq. miles and a land area of 37.0 sq. miles. The first settlers were from Hartford and included John, Cyprian and Zachariah Watson, Joseph Gillet, Noah Merril, Deacon Martin Smith, Thomas Olcott, Stephen Kelsey, Matthew Gillet, John Andrus, Jonathan Marsh, Daniel Shepherd, Samuel Douglass and Eleazer Goodwin.
New Hartford is located 20 miles northwest of Hartford and is bounded north by Barkhamsted, east by Canton, west by Torrington, and south by Burlington and Harwinton. The town is six miles in length, and contains a range of mountains of substantial elevation.
Principal industries of the town include furniture making, machine parts, electronic components, springs, guitars, business forms and plastics. New Hartford includes the area known as Pine Meadow.
