Meriden [New Haven County] was named in 1664 deed from "Meriden Farms" in Dorking, Surrey, England and was incorporated from Wallingford in May 1806.

Home of Protein Sciences, Thompson Candy Co., TI Group Automotive, RFS Cablewave, AMF Cuno, Packard BioScience, Response Insurance. Manufactured products are aircraft products, electronics, biotech filters, nuclear instrumentation, electrical signalling and communications equipment, tools, dies, molds and patterns, phosphorous brass and bronze in sheets, pewter products, auto fuel injection devices, automated buffing and deburring machines, women's apparel, plastics, engine gaskets, corrugated boxes and submersible pumps.
