Mansfield [Tolland County] was originally called Ponde-town, its Native American name being "Noubesetuck". It was settled in 1686 and incorporated in 1702, named from Major Moses Mansfield.

The town of Mansfield includes the areas known as Mansfield Center, Mansfield Depot and Storrs.
