The city of Attalla is located in Etowah County and it’s history actually predates its incorporation as a town. The town occupies the site of an Indian village which was of considerable importance during the Creek War. Newton was the name Attalla used until February 21, 1870, when “Attalla” was selected as the name for the post office location. Attalla was incorporated as a city government on February 5, 1872, after being founded in 1870. The town was officially named “Attalla” in 1893.
