Directory of Main Streets Resources

Home > Regional > North America > Canada > Ontario > Localities > N > Niagara-on-the-Lake > Travel and Tourism > Lodging > Bed and Breakfast > Main Streets

The guest homes listed in this Open Directory category are situated in what can be considered a group of main streets that form what is generally seen as the central core of Niagara-on-the-Lake. A few of the houses are historic, but most are less than fifty years old. The town's expansion beyond the heritage district, which runs from Johnson Street to the waterfront, was very limited until the 1940s and later. In turn, development outside the central core of main streets didn't really begin for another twenty or thirty years. The main streets form a block bounded by King (to the east) and Mississauga (to the west). Between these two can be found Regent, Victoria, Gate, and Simcoe Streets. The north/south boundaries are Johnson at the one end and Anne -- which until quite recently was where the houses stopped -- at the other; and between them lie Gage, Centre, William, Mary, and John Streets. It isn't a lot of streets in total. However, they are all well within walking distance from the heritage district, and they generally have more of an old town ambiance to them than exists in the areas that have sprung up outside them.
