Chirk is a market town, population approximately 4500, on the southern boundary of Wrexham Borough County, on the north bank of the River Ceiriog.
The Langollen Canal crosses the Ceiriog by aqueduct, with a railway viaduct running parallel running north, to the west of the town.
Chirk Castle stands on the hill to the west, and this category represents websites for the area around the remains of Offa's Dyke,
but those for areas further west are listing in the  Glyn Ceiriog locality.
The village south of the Ceiriog, is named Chirk Bank, in Shropshire where websites are represented by the Weston Rhyn category.
Although the town is served by the B4500 and B5070, it is bypassed on the east by the A5, from Oswestry towards  Ruabon.
North of the town the A5 heads west up the Vale of Langollen, on the south bank of the River Dee
across the WBC boundary to Langollen at the village of  Froncysyllte.
Websites for areas north of the Dee should be listed in the Ruabon locality.
