At the close of nominations there were five candidates to stand for Leader of the Conservative Party, to take over as Prime Minister before October 2016.

Andrea Leadsom and Theresa May were the two candidates that were included on the ballot of Conservative party members throughout the UK.
However, this was curtailed by Andrea Leadsom announcing her withdrawal on 11th July, and before 1pm, the MPs thought most likely to want a Brexit candidate, endorsed Theresa May, taking her place at Number 10 at the earliest convenient time.
