This category lists websites for the extension of the Shropshire Union Canal, now known as the Montgomery Canal, originally constructed as the Montgomeryshire Canal, and does not pass through this town.
The original destination was to Newtown, but construction ceased at Garthmyl, and following breach in 1936, the Western branch fell into disuse, with restoration only comparatively recent. The canal is currently isolated from the Shropshire Union Canal, and navigable only for 7 miles between Frankton Junction to Gronwyn Wharf, and a section at Llanymynech around Welshpool.
