Älmhult is a small Smalandian municipality with a couple of claims to fame. The botanist Carolus Linnaeus (Carl von Linné) was born and spent his youth in Stenbrohult, a parish in Älmhult. Some 240 years later (in 1943) the first IKEA store was opened in Älmhult town by native son Ingvar Kamprad.
