The town High Tatras (Vysoké Tatry) gained its current official name on January 1, 1999. It consists of 15 settlements. The one situated at the western end (Podbanské) is 46 km far from the one situated at the eastern end (Tatranská Kotlina). The main administrative seat is the settlement Starý Smokovec (Old Smokovec). NOTE: The town consists of the following settlements: Podbanske, Strbske Pleso, Vysne Hagy, Nova Polianka, Tatranska Polianka, Tatranske Zruby, Novy Smokovec, Stary Smokovec, Horny Smokovec, Dolny Smokovec, Tatranska Lesna, Tatranska Lomnica, Tatranske Matliare, Kezmarské Zlaby and Tatranska Kotlina.
