The Baltic Way (also known as Baltic Chain) was a peaceful political demonstration that occurred on August 23, 1989. Approximately two million people joined their hands to form a human chain spanning over 600 kilometers across the three Baltic states. It was held on the 50th anniversary of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in which Hitler and Stalin had agreed to divide Eastern Europe and Baltic Countries were assigned to the Soviet Union.
