El Salvador has a republican form of government, with an elected president and unicameral legislature. The country is divided into fourteen departamentos: Ahuachapan, Cabanas, Chalatenango, Cuscatlan, La Libertad, La Paz, La Union, Morazan, San Miguel, San Salvador, Santa Ana, San Vicente, Sonsonate, and Usulutan.
