This district is named after the city of Amritsar. Founded in 1577 by Ram Das, the fourth Guru of the Sikhs, this holy city is both the center of Sikh religion and a major city of Punjab. It is famous for the Golden Temple the holiest of the Sikh religion, an exceptionally beautiful and peaceful place.
