Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi (7^th June 1942 – 20^th October 2011), known as Muammar Gaddafi or Colonel Gaddafi, was Libya's head of state from 1969, when he seized power in a military coup, until 2011 when his government was overthrown.
