The Mendocino American Viticultural Area is located entirely within Mendocino County, California. Mendocino County is located north of Sonoma County, and west of Lake County. There are seven smaller viticultural areas located within Mendocino:

• Anderson Valley
• Cole Ranch
• McDowell Valley
• Mendocino Ridges
• Potter Valley
• Redwood Valley
• Yorkville Highlands

In addition, two other areas, the Ukiah and Sanel Valleys, have been proposed as American Viticultural Areas, but have not yet been accepted as of October, 2002.
