The Jem dolls were a product of the toycompany Hasbro, first released in 1986, and featured highly articulated 12½ inch dolls with colorful hair and a rockstar look. The main character was Jerrica, who transforms into the "Truly Outrageous" pinkhaired rockstar Jem, and came with battery operated flashing earrings. Other dolls were her bandmembers the Holograms, her boyfriend Rio, aswell as the rival rockband the Misfits, each of which came with a music cassette of songs, that were also featured in the 1985-1988 animated series based on the dolls. The dolls came dressed in rockstar fashions, and there were separate sets of fashions released aswell. Aswell as playsets, each with an actual built-in musical feature like a radio, cassette player or speaker. 1987 was the second, and last year of the line, with new editions of dolls aswell as several new characters and accessories released. Jem made a lasting impression, and this highly collectable line is still popular among doll collectors today.
