Eryngiums or Sea Hollies are highly ornamental herbaceous plants. The tall spiky flower heads are often silver or blue with a distinctive metallic sheen, and give the plants an architectural quality in the herbaceous border. The European species are quite different in appearance to those native to the Americas.
