Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. www.ieee.org IEEE founded in 1884, have the world's largest technical professional society, consisting of over 320,000 members in 147 countries. The IEEE's technical objectives "focus on advancing the theory and practice of electrical, electronics and computer engineering and computer science." It is a significant standards-making body responsible for many telecom and computing standards, including those standards used in LANs--e.g. the 802 series.
