Pneumatic conveying is a materials handling method in which bulk materials, regardless of particle size and shape, are forced along a pipeline by flow of a gas (air in most cases). The particles can be conveyed in suspended state (dilute phase) or "plug" or "slug" state (or dense phase) or in some cases it is also achieved in so called semi dense phase conveying. Pneumatic conveying is also (but rarely) called pneumotransport, although pneumotransport is sometimes applied to pneumatic capsule pipelines.
