Modern Western Square Dance calling is both an art and a science. Ideally, the caller creates new dances on the fly by combining the moves that the dancers know in unpredictable and interesting patterns. This requires the ability to be both a showman and a technician...to accurately move the dancers and get them back to their original partners while making sure that they're having a good time.
