His acting career began in television, where he featured in the Hong Kong soap opera "Hotel" and the gangster serial "Shanghai Bund". His role in the 1986 John Woo movie "A Better Tomorrow" drew him to international attention, and between 1976 and 1995, he made over 70 films, and received 12 award nominations from the Hong Kong Film Awards. Although most closely associated with the action genre, Chow Yun-Fat Chow also earned acclaim for his serious dramatic roles in An Autumn's Tale (1987) and All About Ah Long (1990). He made his American debut in the 1998 movie "The Replacement Killers" and has subsequently starred in such films as "The Corrupter" (1999), "Anna and the King of Siam" (1999) and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2000). In 1995, the LA Times described him as "The Coolest Actor in the World". Chow Yun Fat was born in Hong Kong on May 18 1955.
