Frances Bavier was born and educated in New York City. She appeared on Broadway in "The Lady Says No," and then on television in the situation comedies "It's A Great Life," "The Eve Arden Show," and "The Andy Griffith Show," and "Mayberry R.F.D." She also appeared in supporting roles in a number of movies, including "The Day The Earth Stood Still," and "Benji." After The Andy Griffith Show, Bavier decided to retire in Siler City, N.C. Frances Bavier died in December 1989 at the age of 86.
