Born in Manchuria, Russian - American composer Vladimir Ussachevsky (1911-1990), with Otto Luening in 1952, gave the first concert of electronic music in America at Columbia University where he was on the composition faculty. With Luening and Milton Babbitt he later founded the Columbia-Princeton Center for Electronic Music.
