Modern period American composer Billy Strayhorn (1915-1967) began his association with Duke Ellington in 1938 with Lush Life. Their association lasted until Strayhorn's death. Alone or with Ellington, his compositions include Take the A Train, Chelsea Bridge, Passion Flower, and Johnny Come Lately.
