Austrian composer Hans Salter (1896-1994) came to the United States in 1937 to escape Nazism. He was soon established as a motion picture composer and music director. A number of horror movies had his melodic touch, including some Frankenstein-related pictures. He wrote for one of the versions of Beau Geste and received several Academy Award nominations, among them for Christmas Holiday and This Love of Ours.
