(1897-1966), New Haven, Connecticut. He studied with Horatio Parker at Yale, Vincent D'Indy in Paris and Ernest Bloch in Cleveland. He was the director of the New England Conservatory and a professor at Yale University. Concerto Concertante for Two Pianos and Orchestra won him the 1955 Pulitzer Prize in music. He was one of the six composers that founded the American Music Center.
