German-born American composer Frederick "Fritz" Loewe (1904-1988). His father starred in musical theater throughout Europe and the Americas. While perphaps pointing Fritz toward a musical career, his prolonged absences meant that the young man was forced to be a cadet in Prussian military school. Loewe is best remembered for his musical collaborations with lyricist Alan Jay Lerner, with such Broadway successes as Brigadoon, My Fair Lady, and Camelot. The two also produced the multi-Oscar winner Gigi.
