Moravian born Czech Romantic composer Leos Janácek (1854-1928) began slowly as a composer, but the latter part of his life saw tremendous creative output. He developed the "speech-melody" compositional theory, attempting to have his compositions echo the rhythms of the Czech language. He was equally expressive in orchestral and operatic composition.
